These Native Status Cards (as opposed to the Indian Status cards for ‘Status Indians’) call upon the Canadian government and public to take responsibility for the environment and its native inhabitants, which includes the plants, animals, peoples, and ecosystems. The indigenous life forms of this land need to be recognized as living breathing beings that deserve to be held in equal status to that of which we hold ourselves. The effects of our actions and consideration to the current state of such living organisms should be taken into account with every step we take, be it in urban, rural, or untouched environments. |
